Jebel Fihrayn – An Infinite View of the Horizon

Jebel Fihrayn, also known as the Edge of the World, grants you the chance to stand upon cliffs that jut high into the sky and offer a truly unprecedented view. The lands that stretch endlessly below used to once be the bed of an ancient ocean and you can see the waters that formerly meandered their way throughout these lands. You also be able to spot camels and their herders wandering through, trekking along old paths. 

There are a multitude of hiking trails all over the cliffs and passing through a particular spot known as “the window” will allow you to reach the lower plateau. Being the site of an ancient ocean means that the many creatures that once inhabited this region still linger on through their remains. There’s a lot of fossils that can be spotted as you make your way through these trails so make sure you have your phone ready to mark all the neat finds. 

The drive to the area takes about 90 minutes from Riyadh and requires an SUV. If you have experience driving on rough terrain, doing the drive yourself can be an enjoyable experience in itself otherwise, it’s best to hire a tour guide to take you there.
