Mauritius – 3 of the Best Resorts You Can Find
Mauritius is a beautiful island paradise surrounded by windy beaches with glistening white sand and turquoise blue waters with vibrant coral reefs. The natural beauty of the islands is something truly spectacular but you can’t really enjoy a vacation without a great resort to spend it at.
Both the beach areas and surrounding towns are packed with numerous hotels and resorts for you to pick from. From top-of-the-line luxury to great value for your money to something in between, there’s plenty to choose from but only a few that truly stand out.
Shangri-La’s Le Touessrok Resort & Spa
One of the largest resorts on the island, Shangri-La’s Le Tousserok Resort & Spa occupies its own peninsula on the east coast of the island in Trou d’Eau Douce Bay. If you’ve ever been to Paris, Toronto, London etc, then you might already be privy to the stellar reputation of Shangri-La. Exquisite Asian inspired food and design elements, extremely luxurious accommodations and warm friendly service are all commonly associated with the name Shangri-La.
The branch on Mauritius possesses 200 rooms and suites plus three beach villas, all placed in six different beach areas. No matter what accommodation you pick at Shangri-La, you’ll be greeted with private terraces/balconies and sublime ocean views. Shangri-La is also one of the few resorts with a lightly developed islet called Ilot Mangenie. This area sports restaurants, an outpost of the hotel spa, butler-serviced beach areas and two golf courses.
With so much to see and do in Mauritius, you’re sure to get tired out very quickly, but luckily for you, the dining options are plenty. The resort has something called dine by Design in which a chef will come to your accommodation and prepare a meal according to your specifications. There’s also the Dinner Under the Stars private dining experience that takes place on the resort’s private island and features a personal butler for any needs you may have and a fireworks show.
Outrigger Mauritius Beach Resort
While Shangri-La may be the height of luxury, if you want something a little more affordable, you can’t go wrong with Outrigger Mauritius Beach Resort. Located in the Bel Ombre area, the resort is set among tropical gardens with low rise buildings as its accommodations. The Outrigger hotel company originates in Hawaii and they make sure to bring the Aloha Spirit of their homeland to their Mauritius branch.
The resort sports four swimming pools for you to take a dip in and all water sports, besides those making use of motorized equipment, are complementary. For additional charges, you can go sailing, swimming with dolphins or partake in a game of golf plus there are specialized activities for children through a kids’ club so all you parents out there can take a break and enjoy some adventurous activities together.
For your dining options, there’s Bar Bleu, the resort’s beach cafe and lounge, and is famous for its delicious American pancakes. Another great restaurant, especially if you’re up for some fine dining, is Edgewater, a seafood restaurant focused on local cuisine.
Mon Choisy Beach R
Mon Choisy Beach R, the most affordable option on this list yet one that still provides quite an excellent experience. This french-managed aparthotel offers contemporary studio apartments with high-class elegant kitchenettes. For those of you unaware of what an aparthotel is, they’re basically fully furnished apartment complexes that use a hotel-style booking system allowing you to check out whenever you like.
This resort is relatively small compared to others but still offers some gorgeous ocean views and private balconies. Some apartments even have private patios and luging areas. The beach is about 10 minutes away from the resort but the resort does have an infinity pool and a private, beach-like area. Other features include daily maid service, breakfast services, laundry rooms and free Wi-Fi.
