Georgia – Best Things to Do When Visiting

Georgia is quite a popular place to be these days but if you aren’t sure what you can do there or simply paralysed by choice with all the numerous options, then, we’ve got you covered.

Here are some exciting activities to help you get started on your Georgia travel itinerary.

Visit the Medieval Land of Svaneti

High up in Georgia’s Caucasus mountains, you’ll find one of the most enchanting places on the planet. A place with hundreds of ancient watchtowers spread across the province of Svaneti, which have long served to keep invaders at bay. Svaneti, which is only accessible by a single long and winding road, has only recently become one of Georgia’s most popular tourist destinations, thanks in part to a small Georgian airline that operates flights from Tbilisi. Flights are usually sold out months in advance, but if you can’t find one, you can still travel there via this private tour from Tbilisi.

Trek Through the Caucasian Mountains

Setting out on your trek through the Georgian countryside will feel like quite the adventure, like the ones of days long past, when much of the world still lay unknown. Georgia is probably one of the most underrated trekking destinations in the world, with expansive farmland, soaring mountain peaks and little welcoming villages. The multi-day trek from Mestia to Ushguli is one of the most popular, though there are dozens to choose from throughout Georgia.

Tour the Caves of Gareji

The David Gareji monastery complex is located in the southeast of Georgia, near the Azerbaijani border. Set against a rocky hillside, this Georgian Orthodox complex contains hundreds of homes, churches, chapels, and other structures. You can also hike up a hill for spectacular views. You can visit the David Gareji complex as part of a day trip from Tbilisi, taking in the beautiful Georgian countryside along the way.

Georgia
Martivili Canyon

The Martivili Canyon, located in western Georgia, is a stunning formation carved by the Okatse River’s waters. Suspension bridges allow visitors to walk around and see the picturesque waterfalls from various perspectives. You can also go on a small rafting trip if you so wish. You can also combine a trip to Martivili Canyon with a visit to the popular Prometheus Cave for a doubly exciting adventure.
